This songwriting challenge was supposed to be fun (it created a problem I didn't expect)

Is the kick pattern right?

Is the tempo too fast?

Should the synth sound be a Prophet or Juno?

If you’re just tuning in…

This week, I challenged myself to record the stockpile of songs I’ve written with the Mona Lisa Lyric Method.

The problem is bizarre:

The method’s had me so enthralled by the process that I now have too many finished lyrics and melodies without recordings.

I was excited for the challenge, but…

My producer persona is struggling to kick in.

I can’t stop switching between my A&R, songwriter and childlike creative brain.

My A&R brain wants to envision the artist I’ll pitch it to —> My songwriter brain is scared I’ll ruin everything with the wrong snare —> My inner creative just wants to play.

(I almost sound like a creative person.)

But this is the reality of any creative process:

…the tension between opportunity and art

…the wrestle with your inner critic

…the fear that what you make won't land.

While I don’t have a Mona Lisa equivalent for producing… yet…

I can offer you the method that gets your inner creative playing and keeps you focused on the right thing at the right time. So you don’t just start great songs — you finish them as great songs… with lyrics that feel so melodic, they practically sing themselves.

The Mona Lisa Method.

Get a few drinks in me and…

I’d confess that even though day 1 didn’t go as planned…

I’d much rather have the problem of too many songs (and overthinking synth sounds) than not having any songs to record at all.

What about you?

Until next time…

I got 99 problems, but a lack of songs ain’t one.
